Here are some good habits to help slow the aging process!
We all long to stay young, slim, and beautiful forever. However, time does not stop for anyone. As we age, our skin loses its moisture and elasticity, while spots and wrinkles begin to develop. For ladies over 40, when estrogen and collagen levels begin to decrease, aging may be the last topic any one of us may want to discuss openly. Many rack their brains and spend an exorbitant amount of money on skin care treatments and products. While these treatments may help, developing a healthy lifestyle and habits that look after our bodies internally are just as important in slowing down the aging process.
Habit 1 – Drink a cup of warm water every morning
Water, making up approximately 70% of our body’s weight, is one of the most critical components of the human body. As such, staying hydrated is a must. Drinking at least 1.5L (roughly 0.5 gal) of water every day is a healthy habit to maintain. For added benefit, drink a cup of warm water each morning as soon you wake up. Not only can this cup of warm water supplement the loss of water at night, but it helps promote gastrointestinal motility and also cleans up the waste and toxins in our gut. The beneficial effect on our natural beauty can be enormous. Less waste and toxins in our systems mean our bodies will have it easier, metabolically speaking. A cleaner complexion and radiant skin are other benefits of water’s detoxifying effect.
Habit 2 – Maintaining a healthy diet
As the saying goes, “Bread is the staff of life.” Superficially, yes, people must eat to survive. However, this age-old proverb can also be understood at a deeper level. What we actually eat every day can also have a tremendous effect on our bodies. Habitual unhealthy eating, such as deep-fried foods, or a high sugar diet can be quite detrimental to our health. Such foods put quite a burden on our organs and will actually accelerate our aging. Whereas, healthy eating not only helps us survive but also thrive. In order to maintain that youthful look and vitality, knowing what to eat and how to eat is absolutely essential. A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables should be a no-brainer; but for the ladies, remember to consume plenty of calcium and protein-rich foods to stay off the onset of osteoporosis as we age. Such healthy diet habits will really help in maintaining a glittering skin complexion and the vitality of someone closer to their 20s.
Habit 3 – Keeping a healthy mindset
Nowadays, it would seem we are bombarded in life by stress from all directions. At work and at home, stress can come from anywhere and everywhere at once. Without proper relief, stress can lead to a variety of health issues, from depression to insomnia, and even tumorous growths in our bodies.
It is imperative to place an increased focus on healthy regulation of our emotions, proper stress relief, and a healthy mindset or mood. For instance, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a good cry. When everything that could go wrong actually goes wrong, let those negative feelings out, instead of keeping it bottled up inside, and maybe call it an early night. Remember, tomorrow is a brand new day and a fresh start!
Habit 4 – 40 minutes of exercise each day
We all know how easy it is to be a couch potato during our time off. The urge to just stay home and read a book or watch TV is overwhelming. Research has shown that, with so much sitting already at the office, more sitting and no exercise after work can cause organ functions to deteriorate over time and accelerate our aging. Past the age of 40, our metabolism noticeably slows, so exercise is really the only best way to stay fit and youthful. Exercising 40 minutes a day can sufficiently bring such benefits as improved blood circulation, fat burning, cellular repair, and regeneration, leading to toned and fairer skin.
